G'day all,

As one of the many people in NZ slowly but surely working their way through the ATPL exams- I was suprised when a little birdie
told me it is better not to have you ATPLs when trying to gain
employment for eagle, origin etc.. as it is harder to move on to
the big boys!?

This has to be a crock of sh*t, right?

Any thoughts?

Most airline hire a first officer with the intent that the pilot will one day be a captain..............A bit hard if you dont have the ticket also how long do you want to be earning NZD 29000 for (or whatever they pay)

Not quite sure where you have got your info from, but as I recall, Eagle wanted you to have a least 3 or 4 ATPL subjects before they would give you an interview.

I am sure Air Nelson would be similar.

To not do you ATPL subjects when you have the chance, is just stupid.
But if you feel that you would be better off not having them. Well, all I can say, is that you are destined to stay in your current job.

Like someone else has already pointed out. Airlines hire potential captains not career F/O's.

Good luck.
