long final

I am hoping to start an ATPL distance learning program around July/August (Medical Willing), and wondered if someone could make a comparison of the difficulty between the PPL IMC Exam and an average ATPL individual exam.

My aim is to get an idea of how long each exam will take me to revise for, only having the IMC or PPL exams as a datum.

Any personal examples, e.g. 2 weeks @ 15hrs per week etc. would also be appreciated. Especially if some are much more intense than others.

Regards
LF

There is no comparison between the PPL or IMC exams to the ATPL, I know coz I've done them all.

Dont know about distance learning but my full time groundschool was 5 days a week for 7 months totalling appx 12-14hrs a DAY studying. I S#@t you not!

However it was worth the hard work!

Im doing distance learning ATPL, fulltime job, extra hours to pay for flying, wife, children and then i do and then 27 hours a week study. Hell of a lot of comitment, and motivation. It has taken over my life. Got to have support of your family as well. Its hard on them, and my wife is luckily backing me 100%
Your study needs to be structured. Make a timetable and stick to it. Give yourself time off planned into it. You have days when you could just give up, and days when you feel positive and think it's all going swimingly.
Ive gat my exams in April, and im panicking already ! <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

Just started my ATPL this week (Monday) after the first week I have relised how hard it is going to be. My first lot of exams are in April too and I just want to be getting on with them.

I am an engineer so some parts are just pure revision for me but other parts like LAW are mind numbing. I wish anyone who takes the exams the best of luck you need it and those that choose to do distant learning! I Bow to you!!!

The ATPL exams are very much more difficult than the ppl exams, the main difficulty I found was the huge amount of information that has to be memorised & all at the same time. There were many days when it seemed that the light at the end of the tunnel was permanently switched off.

It took me 15 months to pass my exams (5 hrs a day study)

Good luck - If you are determined you'll get there in the end
