It seems that AirNZ may be recruiting in the near future. Several calls have been made very recently by recruiting asking people "on file" if they would be interested in attending upcoming interviews and sim sessions. Dates set for the next few months and again later in the year.

You are a bit out of date - started early late Dec /early Jan, all fleets (except A320, no new hires) and it will most likely go on steadily for 3 years from now.

As far as I know Freedom and ANZ have integrated their seniority lists. ANZ are looking for type rated people to fly for Freedom and later move to ANZ.

I have no idea of how much Freedom pay (or ANZ for that matter).

Guess it's a good way of getting into ANZ without having to do the Second Officer thing!

Commando; your only half right.

Yes, Freedom and Air NZ have definately (according to pilots at SJ) combined their seniority lists (with SJ tagging on the bottom of ANZ as at the beginning of this month, I think).

Freedom pilots (along with all incumbant ANZ pilots) have first rights to all positions within ANZ before any external pilots are hired. (Thanks to old ANZ pilots wanting commands at SJ from what I understand!!)

Air NZ and Freedom have also combined their recruiting processes and you may be now offered a position at either ANZ or Freedom depending on where the vacancies are - and will be paid accordingly. A new FO at Freedom is paid somewhere in the late 40's, early 50's with an OK allowance package (OK in terms of not having to live on the streeets!).

IF you are taken on by ANZ (ie no Freedom pilots want to come across), you will still be taken on in SO positions, and if you get taken on by Freedom, you may bid for any positions in Air NZ with the most likely positions being available on the 747 as SO's (more senior pilots than any new boy will want the FO possies at ANZ because of the pay difference!).

I'm not sure how many SJ pilots are jumping ship (so to speak), but I understand from mates already interviewed by ANZ that there are already quite a few external applicants sitting on 'YES' letters with no start dates......

Anyone got the low down on their interview process ? ie is it the same as Qantas (or similar?). Is there a Psych session followed ny a sim, a grilling and then the medical ? or is it more an informal thing like DJ ?

Sounds similar to QF..... there is a pysch test, panel interview, sim session, flight planning exercise and group dynamics exercise. It's over three or four days from what I understand.

hopefully by the time they interview next month i will have my licence and be ready to fly the bros around.

Without wishing to sound like I live in Tauranga (Red neck central) - because I don't, just because you have a specific Iwi or Hapu, that does not mean you are necessarily the best for the job. I trust those selecting are appropriately objective and pick the safest pilots.

Positions will be where ever there are vacancies, over a third of the 733 fleet chaps will be going to the 320 so plenty of slots there, currently 4 off the street people doing a 733 course.
767 s/o course just finished, 744 s/o course about to start. 4 freedom guys coming onto the 733 in june.

Company may bypass some existing s/o from coming back to the 733 to cut down on the huge amount of training thats coming up.
Rumours of an extra 767 and that maybe 2 of the 733 due off lease next march may stay.

Last time I talked to Air New Zealand (who now do hiring for Freedom) with regards to First Officer positions they said "tell as many people as you can". Guess they need drivers for the 737s for when everyone gets transferred to the Scarybuses.
