1 POLICE Love 12:24GMT 04FEB03
Singer Courtney Love was arrested today as she landed on a transatlantic flight at Heathrow airport, Virgin Atlantic said.
Love, the widow of Nirvana star Kurt Cobain, was “verbally abusive” to cabin crew during the flight from Los Angeles. Police were called and were waiting for the flight to land.
The Hole singer was travelling in Virgin’s Upper Class cabin when she allegedly became disruptive and the captain called police during the flight, an airline spokeswoman said.

Love was on flight VS8, which landed at Heathrow at 11am.
It was not clear if police boarded the plane or waited for her to leave.
“She was verbally abusive towards our cabin crew and disruptive,” a Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman said.
“Disruptive passengers are rare but like other British airlines, we take their behaviour very seriously.”

Virgin have some of the nicest most accomodating cabin crew in the industry. No crew should have to accept crap like this.
I'm delighted to hear the skipper made the call.

"Crap like what" ?

If the cabin crew were rude or abusive to me can I get them arrested on the way in?

Hi,

I would just like to say well done to the crew for making the call. Cabin crew should not have to put up with abusive passengers ( even famous passengers).

Some VIPs really think they can do whatever they like whenever they like as long as they pay! They hate to be told what to do!
This fortunately does not apply to British Carriers, and I am extremely glad when I hear of a VIP which is being prosecuted due to air rage.
Let's hope Airlines will never change this correct policy, which is aimed to the ultimate safety of pax and crew.

Well done Virgin.
Let's hope that abusive pax on the ground would be equally prosecuted by police as soon as possible: I have witnessed too many air rages on the ground and there is rarely any consequences for these people when they should be heavily fined or even arrested.

According to Sky News She has been cautioned and released

Courtney Love does not fit in this catagory. By no stretch of the imagination is she a VIP.

Kingfisher:

After what happened with Peter Buck, I would guess that the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service have given up all hope of convicting a celebrity.

We are hurtling down the American road of grovelling to the famous, and giving them carte blanche to behave arrogantly.

She got into strife in Australia a couple of years ago for similar behaviour on a domestic flight. Apparently the normal rules of human behaviour don't apply to rock stars (if that's the correct description of her.

She was charming during the 20 minute flight to Tuktoyaktuk for the Polar Beach Concert in 95. Aside from the sreaming, the large bottle of tequila and the syringe.

Unwell Raptor,

More fool the airlines that insist on carrying troublesome celebreties. A few Airline travel bans should concentrate the mind eh?

I must be getting old. Courtney who?

Never heard of her.

must be American with a name like that.

I wonder if she actually paid to be in upper class.

Please dont tell me who this bird is or what she does for a living. I really dont care. Just pleased she was arrested, as would all us non important mortals

Ms Love is only famous for being Curt Cobain's widow, she would not be famous for the other thing she does which apparently is being lead singer for the well known group "Hole". Which only proves that it's often far more likely to be these little upstarts that were working in a supermarket a few months earlier, that are likely to throw their weight around with bad behaviour on a flight. And speaking of upstarts, remember the chaos that ensued when Naomi Campbell travelled Qantas a few years ago? The flight, if I'm not mistaken was LAX to Sydney. On checkin at First Class, she realised she only had about 18 of the 20 bags she needed to travel with. The airline reserved her seat in First Class and checked her in, but she went home to get the other bags and missed the deadline to be back at the aiport, by which time her seat had been sold to someone else as was now a "no show". Only Business class was now available which clearly wasn't good enough for someone who had been working in a shop a year earlier so by the time she removed all her bags from the flight, it departed hours late and over three hundred people missed their connections.

Bitch!!......................

I have just read she has been given 4 free 1st class tickets for the inconvenience, by Virgin.
If this is confirmed, it is simply unacceptable.

It's also quite bizarre since Virgin doesn't have a first class. But then she is too dumb to know that I guess.

Some recent newspaper stories about Courtney Love and her actions onboard VS08 have given me real cause for concern and I want to ensure that you understand what really happened.

Without a doubt Courtney Love behaved unacceptably aboard our VS08 flight. When I was told about Love’s behaviour I called the crewmember who was directly involved in the incident and expressed my concern for her well being. I also praised the professionalism of the crew onboard VS08 and commended their efforts to resolve this situation whilst continuing to perform their duties for the other passengers onboard.

As a result of her actions Ms Love was cautioned under Section 5 of the Public Order Act. If she were to do it again she would certainly receive more than a caution. This shouldn’t be viewed as a ‘let off’ – the police took this course following a thorough investigation and only after Courtney Love admitted to the offence and apologized for her actions. After careful consideration we have given Ms Love and her companions one more chance to fly on Virgin Atlantic to make their return journey to the US.

Their tickets were already bought and were not a gift from me. I don’t believe in rewarding bad behaviour.

The safety of all our passengers and crew is of paramount importance to me. Disruptive passengers are rare due to the training and professionalism of our crew. We will not tolerate disruptive behaviour by passengers on board any of our aircraft, always report it to the authorities and always push for prosecution.

I’ve always backed my staff in situations like this and will continue to do so.

I would buy any newspaper that put that sort of announcement on its front page.

Unfortunately for all Bransons rhetoic in his statement, VS have taken out a very large Ad in the Sunday Times that simply says

ROCK STARS SWEAR BY US

Disgrace.

Unwell_Raptor

Given the public's insatiable appetite for celebrities, I expect that VS will get a boost from punters hoping to see a rock star - however they behave.

I hurled my Sunday Times into the bin in disgust yesterday when I saw the number of stories built around celebrities including Michael Jackson as the front two pages of the News Review. Nevertheless, the papers can show that a diet of famous names increases sales every time.

Bah!

Despite all the "kiss an' make up" stories, rumours of "free" flights etc......ads by Branson in various papers,"Rock stars swear by us, our service is Bitchin' " etc , etc.......have it on good authority she flew home on BA !!! Ho hum...

Should have guessed it , really!

Courtney Love might not be a VIP, but her name is known by a lot more people than it was 10 days ago. I wonder if this was her plan all along.
It's only a matter of time before we get "Richard and me, the untold story" in the daily smut.:}

Leclairage
21st Feb 2003, 15:31
So why does Richard then give her free tickets for her next VS flight, speaking of his 'rock and roll airline'?
Presumably, he expects his staff to just take whatever the 'vip's' mete out to them
