I've been asked a lot in recent weeks about on / offshore flying and how someone with high time in one doesn't quite fit the bill for the other.

I can't provide a difinitive answer myself so I'm trusting that you can give a little more insight on the subject. (and maybe air some grieveances)

I don't see why an offshore pilot couldn't fly onshore. Lots of my flying is actually cross-country onshore. OTOH, some people just can't deal with all that water. Every now and then someone hires on, flies offshore, & just turns around & quits. I'm not sure where the fear comes from, but it is sometimes there. But if you can get over that fear of water, anyone with lots of flight time can learn to fly offshore. Or even someone without lots of flight time. I don't think they're mutually exclusive at all.
