CLUB AIRWAYS is the name of a new airline that is not an airline. It is an airline whose passengers are its members. You have to join the club. Backed by a group of Swiss venture capitalists the chairman is Michael Schulhof, the former CEO of Sony in the United States, himself an experienced pilot happy to captain the Falcon 50 large business jet his present corporation operates. The new Geneva based organisation is due to launch on 17 February initially featuring twice daily flights from Farnborough Airport in Hampshire to both Le Bourget and Geneva and visa versa. From day one the ‘airline’ will use six aircraft, with two based at each point. Fares will initially start at E500 for the round trip and are expected to steady at between 30% and 50% more than main line costs. The airline has selected Canadian business jet manufacturer Bombardier to supply a number of its eight-seat Learjet 45 aircraft, through its Flexjet programme. Chief executive is Hans Schwab, a former executive board member of the World Economic Forum.
