I didn't go for their training in the end because after looking at the financial background it looked far to risky, even before 11-09. Plus I just don't like paying middle men.

Where are they sending any students for flying now. ? :p

Open up a school, pretend you are the best and make comments like, "we have a good sucess rate" and then take all the students money and close down...

Then open up under another title and do it all again...

I am certainly not one for downtalking schools but they have got to be joking... if they really had to close down they certainly wouldn't be opening up back up again and even using the "We have a good sucess rate" thing........ O please........

If its the advert on p84 of Jan 2002 Pilot magazine, then it appears that they will be the first organisation to offer an Instrument Rating JAA theory course (advertised as starting in Jan 2002 subject to CAA approval). What I don't understand though, is why it is advertised at £200 more than the CPL course when the IR course is a subset of the CPL course.
I'm also baffled how a new company can claim "our pass rate is excellent". If they are a new company, surely no-one will have been trained by them and sat the exams yet?? Or am I missing something?

I think you should change your question to "Whats the story?", Morning Glory - sorry -couldn't resist!

Apart from taking on students like me with a corny sense of humour, Pilot Assist are doing a wonderful job. Their attitude recently sums up their policy - they want to do the best for me.
This is due to the fact that they have not only helped me for the last 10 months, but are backing me whilst I am applying to Cabair for the British European Part-Sponsorship! In my books, they are a top bunch to do that with the potential of loosing a student to another organisation! Anyway I'm very happy with them - I have recommended them to several friends and acquaintances! E-mail me if you want to know more!

Yeah, I know Pilot Assist, have been signed up with them since early this year. I'm very happy with them. The team are a great bunch and have a very good philosophy driving them. They answer all of my questions as soon as possible, well within time required, and do a good job in explaining them. As Charlie boy says, they also support you when going for sponsorship.
All in all worth having a chat with them. When it comes down to it, it is still you that has to do the work no matter who the support team are that are behind you. I also like the way they stick with you even after finishing training. :)

Chaps lets be clear. Pilot Assist College is not really a training provider. It is more like a broker.

You could do all the same training and save yourself £700.

I am glad that they have satisfied customers. However, I would be interested to see a list of what exactly you are getting for your £700...

From chatting to some people who signed up with them it seems to be a note on how to right a CV, telling you which schools to go to, giving you reasonable set of intructions for you to follow whilst hours building (quite useful) and then letting you have a go at some off the shelf aptitude test and showing you the results.

Whether this is good value or not is not for me to comment upon. Clearly some people do think its good value.

As for Four Forces - the whole situation is somewhat opaque. I have tried to follow the situation but frankly I have lost the plot.

The only thing I would say is that there are some fantastic reputable groundschools out there - Bristol, OATS and ATA spring to mind - with a LONG track record of excellence. Similarly there are a number of well established flying schools out there just waiting to help you. If you wish to experiment with new players in the industry then good luck to you. Personally I wouldn't.

If the IR subjects are not a subset of the CPL, then there must be some topics in the IR syllabus that aren't in the CPL syllabus. This doesn't seem correct to me (but I'm not a lecturer) because passing the CPL (or ATPL) exams is an alternative to passing the IR exams to satisfy the "written" part of the requirements for the issue of an instrument rating.

Indeed, at present, the CPL or ATPL route is the only one available as no organisation has yet run a course for the JAA IR examinations.

So if you are a lecturer, what is in the IR syllabus that isn't in the CPL syllabus?
