Howdy fellow Canuckers in Dubai, Bahrain (or close by to these places)!

Are you or anyone you know able to get any Canadian satellite channels at all over here? I wonder if Bell Expressvue or the likes are possible to use in the Gulf to watch the latest Air Farce or Mr. Dressup (ok, that's pushing it...).

I'm not sure how far east the satellite footprint falls.

Me and the wifey are missing Hockey Night in Canada, etc so would love if we could switch on the game once in a while.

Anyone able to help out??

I think you're going to struggle:

StarChoice uses the Anik F1 satellite, which is at 107.3W
Anik F1 footprint (http://www.geo-orbit.org/westhemipgs/ff1.html)

ExpressVu uses Nimiq, at 91.1W.
Nimiq Footprint (http://www.geo-orbit.org/westhemipgs/fnimiqp.html)

You're at 45E, or further. I don't think either satellite will be above your horizon.

I can't comment on the sandbox but down in the middle of the Indian Ocean we get some hockey on SKY sports. If you have high speed internet access try that. I listen to the Canucks games live on the radio. Actually quite enjoyable. There might be a way of getting live feeds from the CBC for viewing. Check out www.nhl.com

Keep your stick on the ice.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

CS, I hadn't checked on here for a few days so I missed your message earlier, but me and the Mrs. phoned your place the other day so your Mrs. has our number. Call anytime for some good news (hint - our feet are firmly planted here!).

Mad (Flt) Scientist, (and Cankid, et al) that is good info, thank-you. Too bad there wasn't a repeater or something for those ones you mentioned, Mad. But those birds do seem mighty west. I wonder if there is a more easterly satellite. The 'yanks are able to get all kinds of channels. Heck I would settle for repeats of Nanuk of the North of Anik 1, even!!

There must be something more easterly, hopefully.

I know the Mrs. would appreciate home shows when I am winging it around elsewhere.

Cheers,
C.O.

Don't get too envious of the Yanks - some of the Ami stuff on the sats here is real old - and oft-repeated.

"Orbit" have recently starrted a new program schedule for its "America Plus" channel which ensures you can see 5-year-od programs that you've seen 3 times in the last 2 years, repeated 3 time-slots every day :*

And I don't watch that much TV (I wonder why  )
