Is it better to be hired direct through China Airlines, or go through a crew leasing company. A-PAL is offering $4250 per mo. w/a $750 mo. housing allowance. What is CAL offering?
CAL's website says there is an attractive remuneration program if your 742 typed. Anyone know what this means. Ive got the type..Thanks

They are not hiring for the 737 any more.

I applied on Aug 15th 2002, and received an email last week to see if i am interested to fly the 744 (right seat) and i said yes.

I am still waiting to hear for my interview in Feb. I'll keep you posted if i hear any more news.

anybody knows if they even look at you if you are not type rated on their a/c types?
looks like for f/o they only want 1500tt ?

Skaz,

If you have 1500TT, you will be put on file but they will put you on the lowest priority.

They want jet time for the obvious reasons but also the exact type on the a/c they operate.

Just keep on trying though! Good Luck.

I'm just curious about your remarks regarding China Airlines.

Would you have any idea, if they need that many "type rated" crew, why  they have an age 42 cutoff???

With their Safety record, I simply can't imagine how age discrimination enhances their ability to improve on it. Do you?

I hate to sound like a whiner (which I'm not, I assure you) but although I haven't submitted my details to them, I would be interested in working for them. Especially with the present realities of our industry.
Reasonable companies have certain 'flexibilities' when looking at the overall candidate. Perhaps CAL do as well. I wouldn't know. :D

You probably know as well, the recruiting Agencies aren't very helpful to just plain useless, as they see things in black and white. In most cases they are merely a nuisance to the Airlines that are recruiting. If you aren't current they won't lift a finger on your behalf. Plus, it is my understanding, CAL will place you on a full course anyway. So, you might as well deal directly with CAL than an agency.

I have over 3500 hours on the A300-600 as an F/O.
I am Type Rated on both A310 and A300.
I have over 11,000 Total flying hours.
But....I'm over 42.

If an ex-pat is likely to fly ONLY a specific type while at CAL, what difference does age make or how does it fit into the equation.

I'd be interested in your analysis.
Thanks.:ok:

Dear ilovelonghaul,

Thanks for your consistent post.

One question: is CAL considering DEC for the time being, I mean, provided the candidate have the experience ( more than 12,000 hr TT; 9,000 hr plus PIC on heavy etc etc)?
What are the disponible bases?

What are the promotional prospects for expats like? Do
they have minimum requirements? And are you likely to get
promoted with minimum requirements?

...so many questions...and you forget mine!....

again: do you think CAL would consider DEC, provided the candidates are experienced enough (say, more than 9,000 hr PIC jet transport time)? And in this case would they consider a transition course?

Thanks , buddy!

I am sending my application today. Are they actively recruiting at this time? I was told they have a big wide body order for the next few years. Most of the present recruitment is for expansion or due to retirement?

Once again, thank you and nice flights!

ilovelonghaul,

You must be management guy with such good points.
Why you didn’t mention cost of living in Taipei, and the cost of school? There is only one (private) American school and it is very, very expansive-5 years ago was 1,300$ a month per child. F/O salary is 4,200$ and there is nothing left after paying all the bills. I had to borrow some money first couple of months. Cockpit atmosphere is not very nice, they don’t like speaking English, and you will spend most of the time being ignored.

hi, ilovelonghaul
how much does not having a type rating diminish your chances of getting in?

Would those same chances improve so much it would be worthwile going somewhere like ASGjet or Eagle Jet and paying for a rating and time-on-type?

cheers for your time, mate:}

ilovelonghaul

skaz

it is very important to have an endorsement with CAL. As for doing your own type rating, some of the ex ansett guys had to go to seattelt to do an endorsement, and I believe their pay will be reduced as CAL paid for the endorsement but I am not exactly sure.

Do not get a rating on your own. If anything speak to CAL and tell them of your interest.

Good luck

Hi Ilovelonghaul,

First of all thanks for all your nice infos,

is CAL currently recruiting B 737-800 Captains. I applied 6 month ago and they send me an e-mail 2 month ago that my application is now under consideration. But until now no answer from CAL.

Is this the normal procedure?

Thanks in advance and happy long haul flights

Ilove long haul....

I read today that China will lease 2 340-300s awaiting their own order. Do you know any more about this?

P.S.-check your e-mail that I sent or you can get me at [email protected]

i do not know for sure about the order, but it certainly wouldn't surprise me. CAL is on a massive expanse in all fleets with aircrafts being bought. You may be thinking of the 2 leased 330's

Dudes

Call me wild, call me crazy, but the link to CAL on page 1 doesn't work. Nor do the google search options. Help?

Whilst I'm here, the q has been asked but the answer wasn't entirely clear...do they want people with lots of LHS heavy jet time but not rated on B747 or A340?

We're talking 3000+ PIC B767.

Look fwd to hearing from y'all.

PS No Kaptin M, no doubt trawling the threads, bored in Japan, I had naught to do with '89. Too wet behind the ears at the time.

Guys,

Oncce and for all. CAL is looking for guys BUT you must be type rated. A very few guys have got through the door without a rating BUT it is not the norm. You still can try though no harm.

As for the application. go to
www.china-airlines.com

Go to our company I think and then join us.

It was last year when I hit the site for the application but all the best.
