Flying in NZ on a JAA PPL

I'm shortly going to be spending a few weeks in Kerikeri (Bay of Islands) and I'd like to get some flying in while I'm there. I assume that this can be done easily enough if I take another pilot along but what I'd really like to do is rent an aircraft and just pootle around by myself, for which I guess I'll need an NZ licence.

What I'm wondering is if it's possible get an NZ licence issued on the basis of my JAA one, and if so what hoops would I have to jump through?

Opinions on any flight training/rental organisations in the BOI would be much appreciated too.

They should have a section on what you are after.

For most countries to fly privately with a PPL, one usually only needs a validation based on one's home licence. There may be a flight test required for insurance reasons by the company hiring the aircraft out to you as well.

I think you will have to do a flight test (check) with the CFI there to get your NZ PPL validation. You might have to sit PPL law as well...not more than a few hour's study required though.

Thanks for the information, guys. If the CAA site is up to date then it looks as if converting to an NZ licence should be very easy.

I've never flown with a catering college before, so this'll be a new experience!
