We all seem to be getting shafted by a continually changing roster.

Is there anybody out whose know the facts about accepting changes, as I know in my company its a grey area.

Is there a minimum time limit to accepting a change, or can we legally stick to our published roster. As I know my agreement states that I work a roster published by the X of the month. It does not say anything about changes.

I understant that I can be called from standby but can I for example get a change the day before for a check in at 0700 when my standby started at 1200. As this to me seems to be contributing to a lack of lifestyle.

CAA / FTL Boffins please???

Trevor Philips at BALPA is the man to speak to.

Well the agreement that we have (it wasn't agreed, it was forced on us) says that the company always has the right to change the roster regardless of what day it is! They can call us (if they can find us) whenever they like and providing we are legal, the contract states we have no option but to comply. Its bloody awful and we've protested until we're blue in the face but we just get told take it or leave. I can't wait to get another job and tell them where to shove it, but until then this one will have to do.

The change to an 0700 is legal.
If you want a life then join a decent airline, where changes like that are catered for in a written agreement.
In my airline I would be phoned at a decent time of the day and asked if I can accept a change. If can or can't, I say so. They may try someone else or possibly buy back a day off from a willing volunteer.
If you don't want to change airlines, join Balpa and persuade others to join as well. You will then be in a position to get niggles like this sorted out.

Simply do not accept the change if it inconveniences you. I will bend over backwards to help out my airline if weather or other operational reasons throw the flying programme out of the window. However, I will not accept roster changes that seem to occur daily for no reason. It is common practice in our airline to change ten crews because one line of flying needs filling. It became the norm for this to be the way the airline was run...until recently. Now we are fighting back after saying enough is enough and to get back to some sort of stable roster system , we may have to strike. Accept your roster changes at your peril, it establishes a new degree of flexibility that crewing never knew they had, and that is their ability to totally control your life. It is up to you if you want to go down this path.
