Newcastle to Scandanavia

At one time there were three ways of directly getting into Scandanavia..there was:
braathens: 737 to OSL
737 to SVG
british airways: DH8 to CPH

and now there is a once a day 50 seater max prop to SVG.....what is that all about...surely Newcastle needs and deserves more than that.

Braathens said that they wanted to restructure their routes and it had nothing to do with load factors

NAS said basically the same but felt that WF were tough competition

British Airways blamed low demand...can you remember the times of the route....who in there right mind would wait till about 12 before getting into CPH when there are services via AMS for half the price

So when are WF going to increase their services....how about an SAS jet operating OSL - NCL - BHX????? what do you think

The old DUS serivce.....i know LH are desperate to get a route from here going well.....they tried enough times....why not get a morning to DUS and back early or mid evening??

any other ideas for Newcastle

I would have thought that with Copenhagen airport managing Newcastle, the links between the two airports would be improved, remember that Copenhagen is served now by easyJet from Stansted, via their purchase of Go, so this could be a future route to be added to thier new base in the north east of England?

just another quick question.......Are KLM UK and KLM City Hopper becoming proper members of KLM or will it be kile BACX?
as a result of this does his mean that we will have more than just the f50,70,100 doing the routes or will we have more of the actual KLM fleet with 737's etc?

I agree completely with the points you make regarding the SVG/OSL ex NCL. Unfortunately, these are routes which are neglected, and have been for sometime. Only Dans and Braathens have given them a proper shot in the last 12 years.

The Brymon Dash timings were not suitable; The aircraft operated NCL-BHD-NCL-CPH-NCL, leaving for BHD at 0700 and the CPH going in the mid/late morning after the Belfast rotation.

The WF operates in/out at 1145/1255, again on the Dash.

So at NCL we are now down to a dash service into Scandinavia, albeit that the airport pax throughput is rising.

The amount of pax who connect through AMS/LHR/CDG/BRU into Scandinavia really does point to the fact that there is a market which is not being serviced properly.

Two flights a day, on a properly scheduled, well marketed service offering reasonable prices and flexibility would undoubtedly succeed, as it has done in the past. What will not succeed, is a stupid departure time, with fares that are embarrassing and no chance of a day return.

I think flybe could have done more at NCL, and still could - before everything with prospect is grabbed by others. Why weren't they on the DUB or SVG? Why not the SOU/BHX instead of Eastern? Flybe are opening a new base in SOU and have a major hub in BHX - makes sense operationally in addition to commercially!

The LH service to DUS appears to be performing reasonably at the minute, with the CRJ taking loads of 75%.

I was very suprised that Easyjet didnt name CPH as one of its destinations from NCL

Flybe have announced that along with the routes that it is launching from SOU in the summer it does plan to fly to CPH..how does that work...not being rude but what traffic is spare down there for a flight to CPH...and arent they getting rid of the CRJ so the flight time will be how long?
perhaps route via NCL...

when they anounced the NCL-BRU they did say that they were considering the SVG route

My mission is continuing and those who and try and hold me back will suffer....chekn out a few website earlier today and found Sterling Airways....a sort of high brow low cost airline operating longer than you usual loco operator....made enquiries about a service from Newcastle to either Oslo or Copenhagen and they have no plans for it. WHY?
We love locos here and they would make a killing with proper advertising and good times

heard from Wideroe today regarding the NCL-SVG route:

they are reconsidering the timings of the route and are checking availability of other aircrarft to increase frequency....schedule to be finalised in the next few weeks
