View Full Version : Scissors cause terminal evacuation

Security at American airports has gone from simply poor to truly bizarre with the latest - a janitor found a pair of scissors in the trash in a restroom in the secure area of Bradley International in Connecticut causing an evacuation of the terminal. Can this get any weirder? How many of these uncalled for overreactions can the industry absorb with all of the costs incurred as flights are delayed and in this case a flight that had already left was returned so the pax could be rescreened at untold costs to the carrier. This makes it seem as if there is no reasonable thought given to these issues - people have inadvertantly flown with guns and it is chalked up to human error but find a pair of scissors in the toilet room trash and throw the panic switch? That does not seem like security policy it seems like blind obedience to rote procedure with no allowance for rational thought! And this after LAX was partially evacuated yesterday after security found a plastic grenade in a pax's luggage - there the screening actually worked shocking though that may be and they still evacuated the terminal - where is the sense in that?. .. .I know there have been several rants regarding security and it gets a bit redundant but this seems to have no end in sight and it can choke air travel if some sense of reason is not applied

At what point will the "crying wolf" effect take over?

I wonder if that passenger carrying the fake grenade ever got to explain why he was carrying it before he was tackled by security, shot with a stun gun, beaten senseless and taken to the inquisition dungeon for the usual torture hearing.... .. .exaggerating - me???

Biz SLF . .. .The pilots on the Pprune site have been predicating for many moons now that the present security insanity was going to led to the bankruptcy of the industry.. . . .It seems that no-one in Government cares.......

I doubt that any troublemaker has ever attemped anything aggresive within view of the National Guard troops. Their presence was mostly a govt knee-jerk reaction, and it often reminds people of some Third World countries seen in movies and on tv. That could have at least a subconscious influence on the publics' desire to drive a car or take the train, as many are doing, instead of flying. On the interstate highways, they can cradle the cell phone while weaving from lane to lane with no turn signals while scaring other drivers, but they are in control-which is the important thing to them, is it not?. .. . Compared to the feeling of flying in a shrieking aluminum tube, people somehow think that nobody could get hurt while driving a car, and they feel safer. Some still believe that the Earth is flat, and you catch a cold from standing a while in the cold rain.. . . . [ 08 March 2002, 06:25: Message edited by: Ignition Override ]

US Govt makes new, huge department, for homeland and airport security. Bigger than IRS and INS combined. But who notices?. .Govt makes inherent claim that new security measures at airports wil make flying safer, but anyone with brains knows this is not true (nothing being done would have stopped 9/11 and will not stop the next atrocity). When the public is faced with another disaster and it is seen that the new security did not work, who will they blame? The government? No, of course not, they will blame the airlines again (governments have better spin doctors).. .Idiots are running the airports and they know they are not achieving anything, yet persist with their idiocy. How long will the public allow this to continue? Where is the Press? Who do I sue?
