Union has just issued this statement.....great timing from Scotia

"A formal statement was issued at 5pmtoday (Thursday 19 December 2002) by CHC Scotia Helicopters in Aberdeen, in which they outlined plans to make nineteen helicopter pilots redundant. The news came as a bombshell to union officials who met with the company earlier today.

_

Mick Brade, principal negotiator fromthe British Air Line Pilots’ Association (BALPA) said: ‘We are deeply unhappy with this shock decision, but we remain committed to working positively with the company to ensure the number of redundancies is reduced if possible, and that wherever possible a voluntary redundancy option is available. We will also argue for an enhanced redundancy package for those pilots whose jobs are lost. Although the company have stated that it would be impossible for Balpato overturn this decision, we will work with CHC Scotia to limit the effects of these redundancies as best we can.’

_

As yet no decision has been made as to which of the company’s 117 pilots will face redundancy. All the pilots live in the local area. The redundancies are expected to commence in January, and conclude in September. At the moment the redundancies are confined to CHC Scotia operations in Aberdeen, although a review is also being made of southern bases, and Balpa warn that further redundancies cannot be ruled out."
