View Full Version : Anisometropia and medical standards

I was wondering if anyone had any experience/advice/guidance about this condition, where there is no evidence of adverse symptoms?

I have anisometropia with right eye at -2.5 dioptres and left at +3, I think. Both the CAA eye specialist and my optometrist are surprised at the ability to focus near and distant without evidence of diplopia.

The CAA will, though, under JAR only issue a UK-restricted CLass 2. Does anyone know if there is any leeway under any of the various regulatory systems which would take the lack of adverse symptoms into consideration?

Sorry to bore everyone with this, but it is a bit of an interesting question for me!

Sounds like you are caught out by the 3 dioptres maximum difference between your eyes. I have a difference of just over 4 and managed to get a class one, by first getting an FAA CPL, and then being treated by CAA as a renewal for class one issue, rather than an initial, where 5 dioptres are allowed, along with other conditions. which I'm sure they are listed on the CAA website.

good luck

gdn,

many thanks for that: it gives me some guidance for research, and therefore some hope!

Many thanks again.
