Saw an article in the Telegraph a few weeks ago about a British girl who had been accepted into the United States Air Force. Apparently they recruit foreign nationals? Can anyone throw any more light on this? Will they recruit pilots from the UK?

There was a previous thread on this. No, you have to be a US resident to join the US forces (except for those employed locally in overseas wars). You have to be a US citizen to be an officer and/or a pilot.

The couple of "British" female pilots in the US forces I know of (including the USN F-14 pilot) have at least one American parent giving them US citizenship.

It's somewhere in the constitution - US servicmen may not be commanded by foreigners. So if you want to be an officer in the US forces, you have to be a citizen. In fact, if you want to do anything defence related and need a security clearance you must be a US citizen.

So what about joint operations? Brits calling shots over Americans? or Exchange posts? are these all "Unconsitutional"?

There is a difference between "command" and "operational control"....
