Curiously, it was said earlier that the company was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy; but now there's a rumour that the company has ceased operations altogether. Anybody with the latest info about how many pilots may be affected by a shutdown?:(

As far as I know they are still operating.

Do you mean Southern Air Transport, which had -130s, DC-8s and 747s? They apparently went out of business years ago.

Yeah IO they did. But they started up again, flying a couple of 747s - saw them in HKG about a year ago.

Indeed SAT (Southern Air Transport) is gone since end of 98, I think. SAI (Southern Air Inc) or "second attempt" operates 4 74/200s, 3 ex Lufthansa and one ex Tower, all GE powered. They did seek Chapter 11 protection for reorganization, but haven't heard they ceased ops yet.

Well SAI just parked their airplanes and furloughed everyone after sen# 21. Are awaiting delivery of an ex AF freighter (nose loader) probably around Feb15th and will try to start anew.
They won't be flying til then.

What was wrong with those ex Lufty (-230) converted freighters? Are they all due for C-checks?..and no money? Well, at least 21 crewmembers will stay on the payroll for another month.

The owner declared Chapter 11 to try to force GE to lower or change the lease on the 4 AC. The judge didn't go for it so GE took them back.........
