The images of the 2 tankers that were lost earlier this summer were a horrifying picture that hit hard to anyone involved in aviation.

The Government commisioned a Blue Ribbon Panel (BRP), to hold a number of hearings around the country and review the entire aviation wildland fire fighting business. The BRP published it's report yesterday available at this link. (http://www.nifc.gov/blueribbon/)

Today the US Forest Service has announced the permanent grounding of the C-130A and PB4Y tanker fleet and a safety review of all 19 P-58 Barons, and 4 Sherpa's (Shorts 360's) story at this link. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20021206/ap_on_re_us/aerial_firefighting_4)

Interesting reading, and I think they have done a pretty good job of identifying the problems and the ways the agencies involved operate. Makes for some interesting reading for anyone interested in this sector of aviation.
