Massey Internship Program

What can anyone tell me about the Massey University Internship program that is starting this summer?

I've only heard a few things:

- 20,000 NZD for a Bandit rating
- 6,000 NZD for 40 hours flying line (if accepted)
- Night freight ops - Air National?

Who is eligible for the internship - only Massey students?


Who is eligeable for the internship - only Massey students? Who is Air National? Is this any different to CityJet FO scheme in '97 and '98?

If that is actually the deal, then it's a hell of a lot worse than Cityjet :rolleyes:

This subject was discussed in depth about 6 weeks ago on D+G R+N so I won't say much more except that you should do your research veeery carefully before signing your life away to Massey. You could start by sticking your head into the crew room of any airline at any regional airport in this country, and asking the pilots that you see what the industry perception of Massey School of Aviation actually is :D

The sheer stigma of being a Massey graduate, is going to reduce your employment chances far more than some copilot time in the venerable ZK-ECM is going to enhance them :rolleyes:

what a F%$^in rip....
20k for a bandit rating on wot is basically a turbine over grown cheiftian....which is operated single pilot in sum countries.
so wot you looking at is around $26 k for <50 hrs bandit time...
hell that should go along way towards the operating cost an hour by itself...
if ya wanna spend this much get yaself on a plane to png...$26k will cover ya airfares and im sure sumone will take the balance in PGK of ya for a turbine F/O job for a year!

dont do it dude...if ya wanna get ahead..there are better ways to get there rather than on wot is a now obsolete aircraft in nz

It's the ATTITUDE which either makes you get the job or lose the job... It was just because a certain group of Massey graduates had a ego about the size of a B737 that whole entire lot of people graduating thorugh there get tarred with the same brush..

The internship involves another company..
The Night Fleet.. they have a website..

However as Herman and Luke said... be bloody careful before signing away... I'm sure one would almost be able to get a B737 rating for that amount of dosh!! And if your a NZ pilot, who's gonna realistically employ you in the industry if you got 40 hours turbine time, when most first jobs involve flying a C172/C152 that is twice the age you are, and leaks everytime you fly though a rain shower...

If your a overseas student.. say from Asia.. turbine time is just perfect for you.. considering that you can just head back to your home country and practically get given a job in the RHS of a Boeing...

The three year average for student loans is 700 per year but only 300 are actually passing the CPL flight test.

Is there any truth in the story going about that one of the managers has part or majority ownership in the aircraft ?
