The New Zealand CAA has just published an excellent booklet on helicopter performance. It's prompted by the number of performance related accidents in the last few years. You can download it free (pdf format 813k) from here... (http://www.caa.govt.nz/fulltext/Safety_booklets/Helicopter%20Performance.pdf)

Well worth reading by both experts and beginners alike.

Now if it would only just stop raining...

It is good reading. Now, is it just me, or does the NZCAA recommend carrying passengers while a sling load is attached to the cargo hook ?? Over here, most manufacturers prohibit the carriage of passengers while slinging stuff. The way some of that article was written, suggests that the NZCAA considers this a safe, and acceptable practice. Maybe I misread it.

Cheers
