Would be very grateful if anyone can spare a few moments to answer these questions....

*How many hours are you required to have before you can train for the IMC Rating?

*Same question for Multi Rating.

*How long is each rating valid for once obtained?

*And does anybody know when the IMC is supposed to be phased-out and replaced by the JAA's equivalent???

You can start training for the IMC any time after getting your PPL but must have 25 hrs as pilot (post PPL) before applying for the rating. This can include the 15 hrs training but must also include 10 hrs PIC of which at least 5 hrs are X-country. The validity is 25 months and requires a renewal flight test.

The JAR multi-engine piston class rating requires 70 hrs PIC in single engines experience, it is valid for a year and requires 10 flights and a proficiency check to renew.

There is no current or planned JAA equivalent to the IMC rating and no plans to discontinue the UK rating as far as I know.

This is mostly from memory, I'm sure someone will come to the rescue if I've made any errors.

Thanks very much Mark 1, I had sent several e-mails to the CAA to no avail!
