If GF want experience from the get go....there is NO other way.
Why upgrade a First Officer when you can HIRE experience directly into the seat? Generally much cheaper in the long run...and GF has had some ah...."problems" with their upgrades, have they not?...A320 comes to mind......

I thought GF where going to retire the 767s and operate only the A320 and A330. Still, it's good news, good luck to all who apply.

Could you kindly post contact Name and telephone.
They made big ad last year and then on the final day of interview they backed down.
Cheers.

This brings to mind a certain UK ops. director who moved on recently. Would be hilarious if he caused a "brain" drain!

Gulf Air interview - "Do you know anyone in Gulf Air?" ------- "Well, err, I do actually!" :D

Pity some of us don't have 757/767 ratings, but WATCH THAT SPACE (and try to remember if you ever upset him!).

The plan is that the 767 will be around for another four years.

Capts and F/Os are needed, sex is NOT an issue anymore, GF is looking to employ FEMALE pilots.

I guess this is because QR has alredy moved in that direction.

CV,s to Capt. J. Choudry MFT B767, Gulf Air PO Box 138 Bahrain.

Dear All,

Re: Gulf Air 767 positions.

Looking towards First Officer vacancies.....was earlier thread really correct on the salary front?

I know it's tax free an all that....but 25K seems a wee bit short.

Any other general feelings about the company, lifestyle, promotions prospects. etc would be greatfully received.

Cheers.

Alberts Growbag
18th Nov 2002, 20:34
I'm sorry but 36K for a Captain is nothing short of an insult. I suggest that you advertise in Moscow to find the calibre of crews that are likely to be interested in working for that sort of money.

Some information is filtering back to the guys at the Orval Bar and anybody thinking of joining Gulf Air might find these items of interest.

Depending on exchange rates: Approximate monthly
Basic salary: USD4250/ GBP2500
Allowances:
Technical: USD1290/ GBP760
Housing: USD1160/ GBP680 – N.B. This is only paid when company housing is not used. Apparently most do not because of the low standard and reasonable private accommodation (small villa) is in the region of USD1730/ GBP1010!
Wife: USD0120/ GBP070
Utilities: USD0290/ GBP170

It is said that the only cheap thing in Bahrain is petrol – less expensive than bottled water.

Also:
Days Off per four weeks is a MAXIMUM of 8 and reportedly can be less, to meet ‘operational’ requirements.
Leave happens in two roughly equal blocks, However, the information is that cancellation happens on a frequent basis; even up to the day before the leave is due to start.
No over-time. Roster instability introduced to make sure that pilots do not reach the cut-in point.
No increments.
No profit share. Rumour has it that Gulf Air has not run at a profit for years.

Good luck to all.

I spoke to a couple of mates today in Sydney. GulfAir is over here at the moment interviewing ex Ansett A320 pilots for F/O positions on the A320 Fleet. They've been told that Gulf Air is not hiring any direct entry Captains any more.

ironbutt57
21st Nov 2002, 04:04
All initial commands at gf are on the 320...so maybe no dec's...but 767 yes

The Trappist
21st Nov 2002, 06:28
A bit more for you guys thinking of the 767.
The fleet route structure, so rumour has it, is like this:
Northern Pakistan: Very close to the Afghanistan/ Kashmir borders and the continuing troubles there.
Nepal: Rioting in the capital, general civil unrest.
Sri Lanka: Capital airport recently attacked – planes destroyed, cabin crew killed. Constant security alerts – crew busses stoned.
India: General civil unrest.
Sudan: Recent hijacking from Khartoum – non existent airport security.

Sounds like fun.

Ok then , I'll never come out of my cotton wool box.

London.........next prime target for Osamas mob.....or maybe Paris...or maybe Rome..or maybe........???

I think I'd feel safer flying something with arabic on the side than a Union Flag right now....discuss

Besides, I could get run over going going to the shops for a pint of milk ...oh and some of those choccy bikkies too.

ironbutt57
21st Nov 2002, 14:06
Trappist don't know what sort of cocoon you live in...but hey my old route structure (13 yrs ago)....Chicago Midway...don't even leave the airport boundary for a white castle slider...detroit....f.a, murdered in the airport hotel car park....denver stapelton...denny's right across the street....got robbed with my f.o. eating breakfast...so fun is where you find it.....it's dangerous to be alive...you might get killed...:p

....and the really big bucks for flying in the Gulf region disappeared a long time ago, except perhaps for royal flights.

Gulf pilots.
Therefore what is the average take home pay per month including all the benefits for a B767 captain?

BlueEagle
22nd Nov 2002, 12:34
Well, I'm not a Gulf Air pilot but, if I have done my sums correctly, a B767 captain would be getting about US$4775pm plus about US$1000pm for housing, (or a free company house), tax free.:)

GULFPILOT76

Hi there me ol' Scotty,

Nice to hear from you, how is life? :)
Yes, some leave has been cancelled from under our feet,
that's exactly why we need more pilots to keep the 'show'
in the air. Heard that 30 have applied for the job.
Anyway, let me know how things are, everything here fine.
(sort of)

Just a quick one.(ooer).

Have got an interview for F/O position with GF coming up.

Whilst I realise that the interview is the perfect time to ask questions and queries on the GF package etc, I thought I might be as so bold as to enquire here as to F/O lifestyle, advancement prospects and the like .......before the sweat gets in my eyes.

Thanks,

Just been up at the Pink Palace and met 6 new recruits on 767
5 Capts and 1 F/O more i think is needed and what with the new airline coming up in AUH in June yes i think should be a good few more openings

Also a pile of new 320 guys too mostly F/O'S if not all i think

No need for advertising in the ragmags just post in your stuff if you're interested

Actually, there are 767 Captains looking for jobs, but I was just an F/O. I was furloughed from American Airlines on Jan.1st, and I'm currently looking for work. Not sure if GF is the place, but I'd interview nonetheless.

I don't have a JAR license, hope its not necessary.

B767300ER

They've just hired as I said and I believe an American was among them
F/o's yes too if not now will be needed very soon I'm sure

And this place is fine not a bother
ask the numerous people who have spent 20 + years here from all corners

No ads just put your CV in and quick

Look at the Middle East section too it is usually the quickest place to pick up on anything in this neck of the woods

GF is looking to employ FEMALE pilots. Hogwash,
That's very interesting news but better keep 'em off the Dhahran run; the Saudi mutawwa religious police would be gnashing their teeth. Women flying aircraft - what next! They even took Barbie dolls off the toyshop shelves when we lived in HZ; something about preventing idol worship.
