Do any of my fellow asthmatics take Becotide? And is an allowable drug as far as Class 1 medicals goes?

Yes, and have done for years!

The docs say that preventing an asthmatic attack is much better than controlling one once it has happened. This stops damage to the lining of the lung. Anyway, it's better to go to work KNOWING you are not going to need medication rather than chancing it vith only a ventolin.

Be up front and honest with the medics and you will get the best advice from those who REALLY know!

Good luck

Just for the record, Becotide is what is known as a 'preventer' medication. It is a corticosteroid, and works to reduce the inflammatory response ie mucous production, swelling and irritation that narrows airways during an attack. Its effectiveness is not immediate - can take 1-4 weeks for the benefits to be felts. Ventolin is a 'reliever' - it is a bronchodilator which works to reduce bronchospasms and dilate airways.

....and look out for the new "British Thoracic Society" guidelines for asthma. I think there due out next year. They may influence the advice we give to our patient's using becotide.
