Is it possible to convert a NZ CPL to the Australian equivalent and then sit the Aussie subjects for an ATPL and so get the license without doing a flight test???

Yes it is possible to convert NZ CPL to Aus CPL provided you meet the hours requirement, pass medical and CPL Law exam.

Once you have the Aus CPL you can then do the ATPL exams and an IR flight test to obtain an ATPL (you must have ATPL flight experience and pass IR theory exam). Note: you cannot avoid a flight test.

Of course you can obtain the CPL then an IR and then pass ATPL subjects and if you have ATPL flight experience you can apply for an ATPL.

As usual it is best to discuss your situation with CASA directly and I have found them to be very helpful. Also check out the website at www.casa.gov.au.
