View Full Version : Emirates 777 & 340 Ratings

I have just last week put in my application on line to Emirates.
However, I am about 400hrs short of the 1000 multi-jet hour requirement. Would paying the cash and getting either a 777 or 340 rating on my own get me closer to a job? If it does then which one would be better to get?

Tough one - it might make some difference however I would personally doubt it. Emirates will employ the person rather than the rating. If you were getting a Airbus rating get a 330 rating since you will be able to be cross qualified on the 340-500 once it comes on line with EK. You would be putting all your eggs in one basket if you got a 340 rating!

I noticed that you are 400 hours short of the multi hour requirement. On average, most EK applicants that get called for interview have well in excess of the minimum requirements that are stated. Wide Bodied jet time is common place. The great benefit is that time to command is very low (providing you have 6000TT>) compared to Virgin and BA for example. EK is a great outfit and I wish you all the best!

I suggest that you post this again in the Middle East forum where you will get a more balanced response!

Editied to say that I heard that Qatar Airways are possibly accepting non type rated people with turboprop time - have you thought about applying to them?

Mate ... I don't think having a rating or not, will help you if you're light on the other requirements ... I know at least a couple of really good guys with over 5,000 jet who can't even get any nibbles out of Emirates at the moment :(

Thanks for the replies, all quite depressing:) . Oh well if I were doing the hiring I would be doing the same thing.
Geezer Ta for the info, I'll throw in a app to Qatar Airways. I did look on their web site and looks like I am 500 hours short there too. Back to the Air force I guess.:rolleyes:

These was a rumour that Qatar Airways (QR) had taken a handful of non Airbus type rated guys and they are/were in France doing the A320 course. There is no mention of this on the QR website and maybe they do not want to advertise the fact since it is still far easier for them to employ someone who is rated! If you look on the Middle East forum here on PPRuNe you will see that staff turnover can be quite high in some cases within QR and the idea of bonding pilots seems a wise move hence offering a type rating course to non rated guys. Give them a ring and find out!

Have you thught of Emarat Air Link. If you have a lot of PC-9 time then that might cut some ice with them. Just a thought?

Mister Geezer, it seems Emarat Link have gone the same way as a company that did the same thing in the 90's..anyone remember CityLink? They too had 2 x Caravans on floats doing the Dubai creek to Abu Dhabi creek with some sightseeing flights thrown in. Unfortunately, although being a great idea, the general public in the UAE just haven't taken to it. (I haven't seen the aircraft flying for a month or two now. Although I was told the other day that they would be flying again in the near future.)
We'll see, its such a shame really!

Thanks for the update. I agree it is ashame to see that it has had to suspend ops after a short period. It seemed that a few people were surprised to see Emarat actually operating in the first place! The company was linked to Zimex Aviation in Switzerland and I suspect that they were the driving force behind getting the company up and running. It would be ashame to see the whole operation go down the pan. However if you were a UAE businessman would you like to fly in a noisy Caravan or hop into a chauffeur driven Merc with Air Con for example, even if it took longer?
