Johannesburg - Direct flights to the Kruger National Park are now possible with the recent opening of Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport.

This will mean tourists no longer need to fly first to Johannesburg and change aircraft.

The R346m airport, which took 16 months to build, is part of an extension project which will increase the size of the park so it takes in part of neighbouring Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

More than 6 000 people visit the park every day. Six rivers flow through the park which is the biggest in South Africa and which has more species of wildlife than any comparable park in the world. - Sapa-DPA
