I know PPRUNE is not an immigration office, but

I am expecting a resident visa in about 6 months, plan to move to OZ with my wife & 2 year old kid. We're both engineers, job prospects look OK in Sydney. I'm PPL with 160hrs, plan to do CPL e.g. in Bankstown and see how it comes along whilst doing a full-time engineering job. Hours building, going IFR and Multi are plans in the far horizon, possibly then taking time off to try & get some occasional / seasonal flying work in the bush. If I get that far I hope my wife's still around to pay the bills...

Anyone living out there in/near Sydney please help me figure out my first steps in settling down in Sydney. Finding apartments & buying a car is greatly aided by numerous advertisements on the web but things like child care: is there a municipal agency in Sydney that run kindergartens I should contact for that? I hope non aviation questions are not completely bashed here :-D
