I seem to recall one of our 'gurus' suggesting a method of upgrading W98 to 98SE using the FULL 98SE program rather than the proper UPGRADE version. I have tried searching but no joy. I believe it required renaming one or two files before using the normal install procedure. Anyone have any pointers, please?

The setup program searches for win.com (in the Windows dir if that was the default dir) and displays a message
"There is already a .... Use the update..."

To avoid this

Boot to Dos (F8)

You should start in the windows dir by default

Ren Win.com win.old

stick the win98 cd in

Boot from CD or win98 boot floppy

Install as normal

The problems with doing this are :(

All the debris from your previous install will still be in the windows and windows system dirs

You will still have to reinstall all your programs/drivers etc

Anyone else have a better idea ??

Many thanks Agent 86. That's the dodge I was looking for.
