Did my bloodshot eyes deceive me the other night but did I see a certain ex-Tornado, Puma navigator on the Antiques Roadshow?
Just to clarify: he was the one on 230 that was liked - even by crewmen. I think he went off to teach the AAC about EW - anyone in touch tell him I said Hello.
Ok chaps that is all - back to the whinging.

As I remember of the 3 ex-Fin navs on 230 in the early 90s one moaned A LOT (and still does), one was a knobber (who had been booted from Hercs to Finn to Fin to us) and one was cheerful and soft spoken (and bald). Guess who the crewmolds liked...
TR - I believe the value of a spec aircrew navigator depends on:
-the crustiness (or lack thereof)
-any chips (one on each shoulder is preferred)
-how much they smell
and of course the most highly prized are NOT the perperual motion variety (ie they dont go on and on...)
Any other tips I've missed?

No t'other AJ is back out in NI isn't he? I guessed so when my telly kept changing channels everytime a Puma passed overhead...
And speaking of that - where are all the Percies? All we get our way are whistling chicken bones heading for the City.
Finally - what's the difference between a nav and a throttle? You can't get airbourne in a Puma with a retarded throttle.

I refer to those navigator chaps who i suppose are around 55 - 58 and retained in the RAF purely as part of CT DI staff team at STC. Unfortunately they look as if the last aircraft they flew were vulcans and when one was asked when did you last go on ops his answer was that he had not. Also, they are all still stuck in the cold war mentality expecting the nasty Soviets to come rushing across the border.
Get real, that era has passed and perhaps it is time, like the said era, they too slip into the sands of time............
