It's official southwest airlines announced that the wearing of the hat is now optional.

I thought there was an 'r' in tosses until I read it again.

I always thought that all the airlines should do that. Most of the hats they wear looked like they came from a Russian Army surplus store:D

I don't think too many of us like wearing a hat, but it's winter and they are good for stopping the rain!
I hate getting a cold, and aircraft are prone to drip on you during the walkaround!!:p

Klinky...

Wear a Hat on the walkround..?!....FOD risk i say...
Just as you duck down to check in the main gear bay.....SSHHSHWOOPPPPPP....straight into the pack intake..
Explain that one to the Engineers..

Actually the company has made it optional. So those that like to wear them can and those like me hopefully will never have to wear one of those stupid things again.

Bumblebee,

You'll find that if you wear your ear defenders over your cap during the walk-round they will prevent it from leaving your head and also give the cap that lived-in look - what Mike Stephens used to call the "50 mission crush".

You do wear ear defenders on the walk-round, I hope.

Bumblebee - that's what the chin strap is for!! ;)

You could also wear your head set over your hat on the flight deck as well. That will also enhance that 50 mission look, probably just like "Mongoose" does !!!!:D :D :D

Their pilots also get to wear leather jackets instead of the usual monkey suits.

Southwest Pilots 'get to wear leather jackets'

Probably a dream come true for the John Wayne, Tom Cruise
wannabe's.

I think many of us would just prefer to dress like Airline pilots.

Yeah, but lose the hat though, it most definately is a FOD hazard !
Trust me I have wittnessed a few engine changes because of them .:(

I started a thread called "Why wear hats?" a couple of years ago.

Got flamed by a few people, but generally most pilots agreed that caps are an anachronism. Good to see that another company has got sensible. Hope there will be many more.

:D
