Try www.e-bay.co.uk (http://www.e-bay.co.uk) as I found some there but don't expect to be able to get much under £50 as I had several bids in and they all got sold at ridiculously over-inflated prices.

I did suspect that the owners of the items were signing on again and bidding their own prices up.
Worth a go though.

For general info try www.lowe-electronics.com/airbandguide.htm. (http://www.lowe-electronics.com/airbandguide.htm.) A very helpful site for beginners.

Hope it helps.

I hope I don't insult ya here but just for clarification, you know that a scanner is not the same as a transceiver? With a transceiver you can also transmit, and they are several times more expensive. Icom has really nice ones but very expensive.

Maybe someone can help.

Why shouldn't retailers of such transceivers be required to get sight of a valid R/T licence prior to the sale.

I know that the second hand market will always place them on the open market but if retailers can be more responsible, so will pilots. Only then can bogus radio operators be reduced.

The law does not require retailers to discriminate. If it did, there would probably be very few sales as the majority of transceiver owners do not have a licence to use them. Many are under the illusion that no licence is required for hand held equipment.
