An ex Cathay 747-200B, B/VR-HIA (now TF-ATD of Air Atlanta of Iceland) suffered substantial damage when landing at Teesside last weekend. The aircraft apparently sustained a tailstrike.

No injuries reported, but not yet clear if it economically repairable.

No tail strike is funny since it can cause significant structural damage.

What is interesting is that over 95% of tail strikes in 747's are during take-off. To hit on landing needs a very low speed and a hugh pitch angle or perhaps just inexperience.

Aircraft is now in Schipol for structural repair.

Does anyone know who was flying it?
