Hi all,
A student of mine has just had laser eye surgery and no longer needs the glasses which were a requirement of his class 2 licence. Anyone know how this will now affect his flying? Will he need a new medical? How do we proceed?
Thanks

well, as far as the CAA medical requirements go, as long as his previous correction did not exceed +/-5.00 dioptres, he should be fine, although i do suggest you get in contact with a CAA doctor to check if he needs to renew his class2

Actually, for Class 2, this is what the CAA says:

"If you have had refractive surgery, Class 2 certification will not normally be considered until one year after the operation. Please note that:

the pre-operative refraction must not have exceeded +5.00 to -8.00 dioptres;
you will need to take to your AME a report from an ophthalmologist about the surgery and its results."
