I would like to know how long it took people out there to get the good or bad news from the big Q :D they say 3-4 weeks, but what is the average for a yes, or a no?

3 weeks for a "you have been unsuccessful in your application ". Got given a year of purgatory and currently still serving that.

Three weeks to be told "your file has been forwarded to the pilot recruitment panel for review".

How long does this you usually take? Can anyone add how long they have waited.

Such an enjoyable experience to be given the sorry letter about the same time - 3 weeks later. There are plenty of practice tests out there, moreso on skills - some web based sites and the Air Force testing book is handy. Fit inside the box or get shown the door.....bring your $165 and thats cash thanx!

Had a mate go through last week, got a 'yes' result within a few days, for stage one that is. It all depends on how busy the recruitment department is. It took me three weeks to the day back in july to get the 'yes'. So it varies.

I think the only preparation you can do for the psych test is as many IQ tests as possible. There are stacks available for free on the net, some more relevant than others. Now that QF have sample questions on their website, its much easier to know what type of questions to practice.

ggrowler - Some people have said that the aptitude tests have all changed recently and that studying for it is harder. You said that you sat it recently what are they like? Any description would help.:eek:

Regarding "study" for the aptitude test, a couple of random musings.
You may be able to practice specific examples, even learn some types of tests, but does this make you more "apt"?
This test of "aptness" is a measure of your suitability for the companies purposes,can you learn suitability?
If they find "too many" people are appearing suitable via the test, then surely they will alter the test to produce the result they're after.
Can all the study in the world increase your IQ?

I have sat and passed the "aptitude" tests three times now (twice trying to get into cadet programme) over the last three or so years, and I couldn't see any difference in the structure of the tests last week. Possibly some of the pattern sequences were harder, or maybe I am more stoopid now. The example questions on the QF site would suggest there is a new section, but there isn't. Perhaps they are looking to change it soon?

Studying for IQ tests may not increase your real IQ, but it will improve your test results. Often tests will scale down your IQ if you've done a test before, for the simple reason that IQ tests are the same as any other test - study for them, and your results will be better.

I have been reading the military aptitude book and a few other aptitude testing books .... just wanting to know if there are any other books that i should read before doing the test .....

Any good websites .... SHL is very similar to the qantas test handout - just wanting to know if there are any other websites/books that have similar questions ...

Any help would be greatly appreciated ...

There's a book called "How to Pass Professional Level Psychometric Tests" by Sam AL-Jojjoba. It's the book you need as it has the same style of SHL tests that Qantas uses. Try your library.
