Plans for new runway at Dublin Airport

10:44 Wednesday October 16th 2002

Aer Rianta is forging ahead with plans to build a new 100 million Euro runway at Dublin Airport - and you're being asked for your opinion on the development. The new runway will run parallel to the existing runway on the other side of Dublin airport's airfield, and it's hoped it will speed things up by catering for extra air traffic. A public exhibition explaining what's being planned gets underway next Tuesday at the Great Southern Hotel at Dublin Airport, and everyone's encouraged to go along and have their say.

This will certainly be needed, but surely they could give consideration to lengthening the current 10/28; 8,650' isn't much if they want to attract long haul 777s, particularly from Asia.

Another 1500' would do nicely.

Does anyone know what length the proposed runway will be?

The last I heard the length was to be 10,000 long also there is talk of the existing cross runway 16/34 being downgraded to a taxiway. The proposal will be on display in the departure lounge in Dublin from Nov.11th to the 15th.
