Australia's Rex to Work With Four Overseas Carriers

By Margreet DietzSydney, Oct. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Regional Express, a regional Australian carrier, said it agreed to carry passengers for Air New Zealand Ltd., United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic and Lauda Air AG.

Rex, as the airline is known, said it's in talks with other domestic and international carriers about similar interline agreements. Such arrangements allow passengers to travel with one ticket on flights of other airlines.

Rex was formed in August by merging Hazelton Airlines Ltd. and Kendell Airlines Pty, both regional units of Australia's failed former No. 2 carrier Ansett Holdings Ltd.

Rex has about 1,300 flights a week in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania and employs some 600 staff.

"These agreements will make it easier for regional passengers traveling internationally to connect, simplifying their arrangements,'' said Rex Chief Executive Officer Michael Jones in a statement.
