I asked about the upgrade last week but I have been informed that I do not need to upgrade a FAA PPL if I am going on to do my CPL IR ATPL can anyone please help me on this. Also can you add a night rating to it.

With thanks:confused:

Didn't see your first message, but if you are asking if you need to convert your FAA PPL to a JAR PPL prior to starting the JAR modular CPL then the answer is no. You just need a ICAO issued PPL (the US is obviously a member of ICAO).

You cannot add a night rating to your FAA licence, but I understand that if you have the 5 night hours required, they still count towards the 5 night hours you need for your CPL (even though you don't strictly have a "night qualification"). I have still to confirm this though and the CAA offer the usual opaque information.

I am in the same position and am 30 minutes short of night time! Means I need to fly it off in the UK on an N reg aircraft or go to the US for a couple of circuits!

Hope this helps.
