Instead of doing a JAR ATPL(A) course just now, how about following a JAR ATPL(H) route? If you could gain employment with one of the major operators in the North Sea (Bristows, Scotia etc..) you would build up your hours pretty quickly. Then, once this situation has settled down a bit, you could convert to ATPL(A) fairly quickly and hopefully get a 737 type rating under your belt ;) (well, maybe!). Anyway, I know this route has been used by many pilots over the years and now might be a good time to do it for serious wannabes.

Your opinions please. :D

What, you mean fly an angry palm tree around the North Sea, in the middle of winter, with a bunch of hairy arsed roustabouts down the back, for s*d all money?
Good idea, might catch on!! By the way, have you seen how much the ATPL (H) is?

I can't see that heli jobs are any easier to come by, and at a guess, I'd say there are more (proportionaly) military guys with experience available than there are in the fixed wing route.
