As the economy is apparently slowing, this could be a 'BAD' time to spend everything you have on a Frozen ATPL, making what is already a difficult market (for low-hour pilots), virtually impossible in 12-18months!

What do you recon?

Fitly, this is not a 'difficult time for low-hour pilots'. The pilot market in UK is the best it's ever been. The trouble is, there are still more wannabes than jobs. 10 years ago, you'd have still been visiting this site with 2000 self-paid hours and still jobless.
Secondly, it's likely that in 18 months to two years, this slowdown will be ancient history and aviation will have resumed its characteristic expansion. In any case, as the home of the low-cost airline, the UK is likely to be the best place in Europe for jobs whatever happens in the economy (within reason) - remember, Ryanair announced record Q2 profits yesterday, and are looking for an extra 50 737s.
The overwhelmingly important factor is you: how able you are, how well you do on your course, how effectively you carry out your job search, and how well you come over at the eventual employment interviews.
