I've been running FS2002 perfectly for a while now, but recently upgraded my PC.
I now have:
2.1ghz Athlon CPU
256 RAM
GeForce2 Intergrated graphics card
Windows XP (I had this before the upgrade!)
etc etc
It worked fine the first few times I used FS2002, but now, whenever I start, the monitor switches itself off, and I the only way I can turn it back on is by re-starting the PC, or closing FS2002 - flying blind, as it were.

I have the latest drivers for the graphics card.

Any one got any ideas?

Many thanks,
TheKentishFledgling

PS For various reasons, I want to avoid a re-install if at all possible.

PPS This is the same with CFS2!

How about DirectX - have you got the latest version i.e. 8.1?

2nd suggestion - look at this page (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q263039) on the MS site - it specifically mentions black out screens when playing..sorry, flying FS2002 and others.

3rd suggestion...look at the computer like this  . If it doesn't work try looking like this :( and, if all else fails http://www.stopstart.fsnet.co.uk/smilie/pcangry.gif

If the new processor is one of the ones designated XP then there seeems to be a problem with GForce 2 cards. The only answer I have heard of is to change the video card, sorry about that.

The monitor switching itself off is an oddity - on the face of that it sounds like FS2002 is trying to use an unsupported resolution/colour depth/refresh rate combination. Does it work with any other Direct3D applications?

Shack:

This sounds like a nForce system with the integrated GF2 - since they only work with Athlons there shouldn't be an incompatibility problem between the two. That said, adding a new card sounds like a good idea... I just swapped my GF2 for GF4 for FS2002 - now I just need a new motherboard and processor to go with it...

Ed,

Sounds like an interrupt problem. Mail me if you like.

I know of three people who were running GF2 cards with "normal" Athlon chips with no problems, they changed to Athlon XP chips and had immediate problems with video.

Thanks for all the help so far - still no joy though

BUT I've just been playing around with some settings, and whenever I change the colour settings (display properties) from 16 bit to 32, the screen does the same: blacks out and turns off.

I guess this is something major to do with it?

Thanks,

What screen resolution are you using. The last post suggests an unsupported mode of either the card or the monitor.

800*600

But FS2002 is set to run at 1024*....

Have you tried running in 32 bit at 800X600. I use a Gforce 2 card at high res but your monitor might not support 1024X760X32

But I have FS2002 set up to run at 1024.. in full screen mode, while my PC is set to run at 800*600.

How do I chane the FS setting over?

Thanks,
tKF

Go into the settings menu and select the hardware tab. It will then give you a list of settings that the graphics card will support. Make sure that the correct graphics card is shown and then I would suggest for test purposes selecting 800x600x32.

See if that helps at all
