Buying Glasses

Hi,
Has anyone got any suggestions on what or what NOT to buy?
Any particular brands or style of frame (both normal and sunglasses).
I'm thinking of getting contacts as well - good idea? If so, any particular type that work well at 30000ft with no moisture!!!
Finally, if anyone can recommend a good optician in the Ealing area I'd be v grateful.
