I've seen that Britannia are recruiting for First Officers. Anyone got any further information..... which bases in particular? .... Are the wages good?.... What is the morale like at the moment?

Any information would be appreciated!

Don`t know anything about recruiting F/Os.
According to their website www.britanniaairways.com they are not recruiting any pilots, but they are doing a sponsorship scheme through BAE Systems in Jerez.Could that be what you`ve heard?

According to www.flightinternational.com they in fact ARE looking for F/Os.Their qualifications are fairly steep though.1500 total, 500 jet or 1000 turbine...and last but not least...preferrably type rated on the B757/767.

A bit too steep for myself, but at least things are beginning to move again:)

It must be the same advert on Flight International as the one I saw on www.aviationjobsearch.com. Obviously quite a new thing, especially if their own website knows nothing about it!

Well, websites aren`t always updated immediately, so that could be the reason.Also, it`s much easier just to send out an ad.

It doesn`t mention anything about the pay (besides the usual "competitive salary" and "benefits"), nor about the bases, but if I had their requirements (or close to them) I would definitely send an application.I`m sure some of the SAS pilots are doing this as we speak.

Pay and Conditions: Average starting pay, loads of bases, old equipment, pretty good pension scheme, good variety of flying, lots of night flying and a long time to command.

It's a job though!! Can't see that they will get the hours they are looking for though??

They are ONLY recruiting type rated 757 / 767 guys.

How certain are you that they're only recruiting type rated drivers, or is this something you just pulled out of a hat? I know the ad says 75/76 typed people will be given preference, but that's obvious, and usually nothing much to go by.

All the holdpool recieved letters today. Might suggest they have enough un-rated guys swimming and need rated guys pronto?

Ok. Any Britannia guys want to answer the million dollar question. Will they hire people without the 757/767 rating ??? This is of course if a person were to easily able to exceed all other requirements.

Secondly, how many type rated guys are floating around the UK, and I stress the Britain part at this moment in time? (All types)

If you have the minimum requirements I don't see any reason why you will not be in with a shot of gaining employment, as long as you are 45 yrs or under with 1500 hours plus 500 jet or 1000 turbine.

I don't think there are many 757/767 guys knocking about in the uk at the moment, but Britannia is no longer really a British airline anymore and I am sure there are a few 757/767 guys in Europe who will be applying and will more than likely get the job, but I don't think Britannia is recruiting a large number of F/O just a couple.

The fact that Britannia is recruiting and is one of the major airlines is very good news indeed, it shows that maybe the market will not take as much of a dive if war breaks out in Iraq

Canadian Kid, I can think of at least half a dozen people who will be on the job market soon with the requirements for brits. :mad: :mad: (ie 757 rated)

swashnob - S'pose it depends on ones definition of "old Equipment"

The oldest aircraft in the UK fleet is a B762 and two B752s from 1990, and the newest are two B763s from 2000, is that really old?

Remember there is about to be an order from TUI airlines for 80 aircraft to be delivered over the next 7 or so years......

I heard a little rumour that Britannia want type rated only for the short term so they don't have to spend much time training as their training staff are off to Toulouse for the winter to train on the Airbus. This ad in "Flight." is testing market ready for new buses from TUI.

Anyone care to comment further on type rated people, the number Britannia will be hiring and when the course is scheduled to commence? With recruitment this winter, will they again be looking for people next year? What type of A/C is the sim evaluation done on?

P.S. You European people are lucky. Westjet (Canada's Ryanair) are recruiting monthly. MINIMUM requirements are 5000 hours. That is a 5 with 3 zeros. They have a stack of resumes to the roof, and all meet the minimums. Food for thought.

The facts are:

If you have 1500+ hrs including 500 jet or 1000 turbine then you are regarded as 1st Officer grade and the starting salary is £36,681

There are various second officer grades for people with less than this and the pay for second officers starts at:

Second Officer 1 £24,970
Second Officer 2 £28,538
Second Officer 3 £32.105

The formula for the ranks is quite complex, well, too complex for me to type out!.

After my discussion with them I got the impression they were looking for people with jet or heavy TP time, but like many airlines cast a wide net to keep the demographics correct. Having said that, one may assume the number of entry level jobs would be limited as there are a few guys around with the requirements at the moment.

The overall package works out less than a FO with time at Ryanair.

Oh yeah and when did you last have a beer with a Ryanair pilot in Barbados?

Don't just look at the "salary" there is much more to it.

Your right guys,

I,m only looking around for a better quality of life, and yes we do work our butts off... But... She's got used to spending the dosh,and the rug rat keeps getting bigger!

Still, could be a lot worse, talking to a few Irish guys with their JAR CPLS working on the ramp at DUB as ground crew,hoping things will pick up over there.

Maybe look at the Orange contingent.

Britannia are looking for about 20 people, preference to type rated but they WILL recruit non type rated. Courses early next year. Starting salary £36,681 + sector pay+allowances. Good pension (at the mo). Most likely bases "up North". Sim used to be 732 (not sure now). no fleet change until 2008. Excellent company to work for, good mix of flying I do an average of 14 sectors a month 600 hours a year.

I have Brit application form but not off to a good start, stuck already, any help out there ?...

Q: " Give the date and your age when you first started flying training" oh er!

Q: Copnversion training "Type from....Type to"

Q: "How many attempts to achieve first solo" (thought you cold only do first anything once)

Not the sharpest knife in the box I am afraid , so any help appreciated.

Some bad news I'm afraid. As an ex-OATS student, I have been talking with Mike Taylor about Britannia's recruitment. Seems they won't be looking at light aircraft pilots (i.e. guys/gals who have just left flying school) even if we have 5000hrs.

I had the application form all ready to send back. Looks like we'll have to wait unitl they start recruiting Second Officers.

Does it really say that?! Unless you chicken out on the taxiway how can you possibly make more than one attempt at your first solo???? :D

The recent recruitment drive has a lot higher requirments than previously. But there are plenty of low timers swimming in the hold pool. I believe there is a remote possibility that they will be looked after eventually.:rolleyes:
