Can anyone offer any advice on how to speed up the internet on my computer. Friends are on the same line and there's is much quicker. I have just bought a 56K modem to replace my old 33.6K one but that does'nt seem to have had much effect. Anyone able to offer any ideas? Settiings on my computer perhaps?

Its a bit of a black art, so I'll leave most of it to the web sites, but check your ISP. Some are much slower/faster than others. Also update your drivers.

If your techinally minded this might be useful (http://www.speedguide.net/)

This is a bit simpler (http://www.activewin.com/tips/speed_tips_1.shtml)

But there are many more I can't find. I'm sure other people will hav better sites somewhere.

OR...

www.pcpitstop.com is quite straightforward - runs a diagnostic probe on your machine and then guides you along changing you settings for optimum performance and security etc..
