I've heard rumors that Northwest is going to return their 757-300. Again, as far as I'm concerned this is a rumor, and there is really no hard/credible evidence to support it. The aircraft was returned to Renton, and the titles covered up on the 7th of this month. Was it just in for maintenance?

Personally, I believe that Northwest would have a great use for the 757-300, considering they really don't have any aircraft in its category (i.e. 767-200). They need something to support the medium-ranged (cross-country) flights, with about a pax load of 230 or so. I think the 753 would be a prime choice. Let me know what you think guys.

well, seems like nwa are not too happy with the 757-300's....but they just took delivery of their third one last friday. should be in service by now. whereas the 757-200 is a real greyhound, the -300 is a real dog. nwa is only customer for p&w powered -300s....and guess what folks, there may well be a very good reason for that. its underpowered. can't reach much more than fl330 on initial climb, whereas -200s will go straight to 370. sounds much like the situation when nwa bought dc10-40's with p&w engines for commonality with the 747-100's in the 1970s.....result, compromised performance. when you buy an aircraft from mr boeing, you buy a performance package that you negotiate with the manufacturer...and this is another instance of getting what you were willing to pay for.

On the TWA(now AA) 757's our gross was less than the RR airplanes. Our -200's could go up to 370 initially--only on medium range flights. Transcons or crossings wouldn't do it.TC

I'm curious, how many flight attendants do you carry on the 300?

On flights where we serve a hot meal ie over 3 hours, we carry seven Flight Attendants and flights under 3 hours (per sector) we carry 6.

interestingly, all of the UK charters carry more than 230 on the B752! (in our case with 6 cabin crew)

then we get 274 or 290 on the B762 (with 7 cabin crew) and 328 or 316 in the B763 (with 9 cabin crew)

Obviously your average Brit charter passenger is getting smaller, as the charter airlines only put 228 on them in the early days (1986 when I was dealing with them)! Presumably they squeezed another row in to make it 234 at some point. And there was me believing recent newspaper reports that we are all getting fatter!!!

The airlines have cut out the meals! Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, the airlines have helped reduce obesity by eliminating meals on flights shorter than 29,000 miles...;) TC

At AA on the A300 we put 190 in a 3 class bird, and the 2 classers have 250 peeps.

I believe Monarchs A300-600s have damn near 400 people in em in their charter config... Boggles the mind. At Airworld we put 180 in a 320, compare that to the 300 at AA...

Cheers

180 in an A-320? That's alot. At Leisure Air, we only put 168 in all-coach config. Still cramped.

welll.....we put 39.5 metric tons of frt in ours...and it doesn't complain a bit....but 350 after a max auw takeoff is a bit tedious with a "gulf standard isa" at toc (+20);) :p :) :D
