View Full Version : What is the cheapest route to flying for reward?

Please, can someone out there help me?

I have always wanted to fly for a living but have somehow found myself in the fire service, where, despite the lowish pay you seem to be wrapped in cotton wool leaving me very reluctant to throw caution to the wind and go for my ATPL. So my aim is simply this, (if simple is a word anyone in the pilot licensing industry understands), to acheive a license where by I can do what I love doing, (thats flying by the way), be paid and not have to give up my current job.

Sorry, quite a long winded way to ask what the minimum requirements and costs involved are, and the possible rewards of banner towing, aerial photography etc...

I would be grateful of any help or advice, as so many websites, magazines and sometimes instructors give conflicting information which is becoming increasingly frustrating!!!

Cheers

Paul

P.S. I am currently a glider pilot and am hoping to begin my PPL early next year.
