Royal Nepal has been going downhill for some time which is a great shame. It badly needs foreign investment to turn it around. However is this really a good time for QR to dig into their pockets. The Maoist uprising is still a big threat and Nepal still appears to be a country that is not very stable. I am sure the staff at RA will be excited at this rumour because it does provide a ray of hope but maybe I am being cynical but what will QR get out of it? The comical thing is that RA might of still of had routes to LGW and FRA if QR had not started offering KTM connections for European passengers at DOH.

Royal Nepal operating a 757 to DOH in a code share with QR offering convenient connections to QR operated flights (codesharing with RA to LHR, CDG etc) would be an ideal solution in my view. Or is the KTM route one that QR would be too upset to loose? The 757 also strikes me as the ideal size of aircraft to use on such a route.... any one agree?

Nepal is a beautiful country and it needs a strong national carrier in order to put it on the global map again. If this rumour is true then I hope this will be a fresh and new chapter for Royal Nepal.

True Nepal is a lovely place I have visited it many times over the last few years but I think QR has enough problems of its own regarding crew, rosters etc.

Mister Geezer,

Your response above makes a hell of a lot of sense. In fact, the 757 would be an ideal sized aircraft for the route, given the fact that QR currently operates both the A300 and A320 on the route.......the 757 in its mid-size configuration would give optimum pax capacity, being neither too big or too small.

However, regardless of the situation in Nepal at the current time, I think that (as Kenoco has suggested and I have also on previous occasions) QR should devote a little more time to getting their own house in order, and not spend money on foreign headaches at this stage.

The same comments would apply to reputed investments in Sudan and Biman, and not just RNA.

Doha - I don't really know what you mean in your post, to be honest, but if my assumption is correct, you are saying that foreign investment by QR in other carriers would be a good thing in that it would generate revenue and eventually raise the profile of QR (?) I agree that eventually this would be the ideal. However, at present, should't Qatar Airways spend a bit more time looking inwards at themselves and ironing out current problems.........before increasing these through strategic acquisition?

Lets see.....

Hi Kenoco,

You make me laugh........thanks for your nice comments and I don't know whether or not I am cute, but that nice guy who moderates this forum (Mr. 4-HolerPoler) I'm sure has no desire to become the next Cilla Black (British TV dating show.)Thanks for your concern 300Man; I have a small amount of compassion (call it pity) for Kenoco as she thrashes around in her post QR allergic reaction. Sad to see how quickly a thread with some substance is hijacked by the bitter, bent on revenge. Much more of this and we'll block her rantings. 4HP

Therefore, we can continue our flirtatious behaviour through PM system, please. Haha.

But, returning to the point in hand, I don't entirely disagree with QR being involved in strategic acquisition of another carrier. All three examples cited would have varying degrees of logical sense and the "fit" would be varying dependant on which one.

However, I just do feel that just now the time should be spent in ironing out the Company's own problems before they go on a wild purchasing spree which - at this point in time - would cause more harm than good.

Give it a year or so, and maybe the situation would be different.

Anyway its a pity QR treats its crew like dirt because I think if AAB had a more civilised approach to human resourses he would not need to keep recruiting day in day out,QR has great potential and sadly they lose some very very good crew due to the widespread abuse of cabin crew and that needs sorting out if QR wishes to make it big on the world market.Sad but true.

Himalaya,

Qatar Airways were involved in the AeroNepal project which was a joint venture between Qatar Airways and a consortium of Nepali Businessmen. That was at the time when the Nepali government was considering ditching Royal Nepal and finding another carier to take its place as National Carier of Nepal.

The project never went through for several reasons, since then there have been attempted privatisations of Royal Nepal and I believe QR were asked to have a look at buying a stake in Royal Nepal but again nothing happened.

In my opinion QR should stay out of buying into Royal Nepal because of the obvious security reasons and the unstable situation in Nepal. QR could also channel all African, European and Middle Eastern traffic to KTM through DOH and giving a boost to Royal Nepal would mean QR would have to sacrifice some of their traffic on the all important KTM route. If QR wants to get the SE Asian - KTM traffice they can always excercise their 5th freedom rights which will allow QR to fly KTM-KUL.

A300Man isn't Kenoco a guy? you could work out who he is from the username.
