Smoke me a kipper

I'm interested in getting a job at a regional airport doing something, where I can start learning more about aviation and to network in order to improve my prospects for getting an Air Crew postion!

Does anyone on the forum already have a job at an airport or in avation (other than as an instructor) and can anyone recommend a job?

I currently work in insurance and while I use supervisory and team skills, I don't have much contact with Aircraft!!

Cheers

I would stick in insurance, it might be boring but the money is generally better which pays for the flying tokens. Get into NFU's pension review they pay big bonuses I believe.

Otherwise I know that most if not all of the major airports have job centres.

Good luck.

Ahhhhhh ....... but smoke me a kipper was at the seminars and knows that networking will pay off in the future. You can get money from the bank. I can't remember which shop to buy links to the aviation industry http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/tongue.gif Good thinking mate! http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif

I was their too and agree, networking is great but you need to have the money to do all the training!! A great way to network is to get your parents in on it, they are bound to know some pilots and if they don't then the in-laws will and they are always willing to help.

At the end of it everyones situation is different. I can't afford to work at Gatwick and fly due to the drop in salary.

It is a good plan, Hope it works.

Could I suggest a compromise. Why not try and get a job with one of the specialist aviation insurers.

Good idea mate,

Even better idea, get a job at airport but work for the actual airline.

While I was doing my flying training I worked full time at a pizza shop, and also as a dispatcher for a regional J32 operator early in the morning. An excellent way to get a feel for aviation and get your foot in the door at the same time.

Knighty mate,

Well I saved like a bastard for three and half years, and thought, what the hell, time for a present :). Ummmmmm, I think I may have to take time out inbetween flying and ATPL modules to go back to that crappy office job to buy those new leathers :).

It is of course a lovely bike, and the ladies love it ;)
