Hmm, I guess, technically, PPRuNe is US-based - I believe it lives on a server in the US, anyway, but I'm not certain. But Danny, who set it up and runs it, is English, a fairly high proportion of the members are British, and I think it's fair to say it's basically a British forum.

Having said that, though, everyone is welcome here. Many UK pilots, especially Wannabes, do some training or hour-building abroad, and it's always nice to talk to people from other countries and compare the way other systems work - not to mention the friends that you can make from all over the world!

If you're looking for something exclusively American, try scrolling down on the Forums page and you'll find a North American forum. But stick around in the other forums, too - I know I value input from all round the world, and I'm sure I'm not the only one!

Of course technically this forum is half Welsh... I'm not actually sure of Scroggsys lineage...?

PPRuNe was started and run by Brits and to this day the majority of Mods and Admins are British. There is a dissproportionate bias towards UK aviation although the Colonies are well represented - particularly on Dunnunda and Godzone.

Surely WWW, your presence ensures that the colonies representation extends to those closer to home? ;)

That wasn't what I heard on a recent trip to Dublin. Over there, the Euro Dollar has meant rising prices and high inflation, exasperated by low interest rates, set so to suit the continuing Deutsche economic slumber.

The following list is a sample from the stats. It shows the countries that visitors are logging on to PPRuNe from. As you can see, there are visitors from 68 countries, the majority from the UK. The figure from the US is probably innacurate as as far as I am aware anyone using AOL as their ISP will show up as a US visitor. What strikes me about Danny's statistics and my impression of the site is that the people from certain countries must be pretty vociferous, and the British actually quite reserved :D It rarely seems a half-British site. The Irish certainly make more than 1.26% of the running :D

El Salvador? Ranked 10th ahead of Norway, Belgium etc? What can be the reason? Retired mercenaries? Legally domiciled ISPs? Two or three hyperactive Ppruners?

P.S. I think I am responsible for some of the 5 Colombians, some of the Dominican and some of the Chinese and Korean:D

Go out and buy some drugs to import in your luggage or stay in the hotel and PPRuNe

That South America, Italy and Norway have never been British colonies?
Tsk, tsk, you should know better than contradicting the wee man girl.......... ;)
gizbug, interesting subject, and that bit of statistic gives me same good feeling as seeing all the destinations on a departure notice board at a busy airport:

Unless Danny's software is doing some clever stuff, then the statistics are probably showing the top-level domain, i.e. country code, being reported by the computer being used to access the Pprune server. For some of the smaller countries this can be misleading. For instance there are "Turks & Caicos islands" machines here in Cambridge, U.K. It's quite likely that some or all of the hits apparently coming from e.g. Montserrat are coming from somewhere else.

Yes Send Clowns we Paddies seem to punch above our weight. You know what they say, land of Saints and Scholars and plenty of Blarney too.

Gizbug you have been subjected to what they call British humour and a few other countries besides. Take it on the chin!

Gin Sling, on the Euro front not quite true to say the Euro caused rising prices. More like greedy service based business, like pubs, Hairdressers, Doctors, Lawyers et al who took to opportunity to shove up prices thinking we wouldn't notice. We noticed alright. Watch out for a day of reckoning there. A boycott or two is on the cards.

Well I think the site is Irish, because as you will well know, most people from other countries claim to have a bit of Irish in them. Included in that is part of the managment team i.e. Hamrah and Pprune Towers. Plus how many pilots do you know that would turn down a rake of Guinness? :D :D :D :D

... I can think of half-a-dozen or so PPRuNers in Brunei who don't get a look-in here. Probably because the Internet Service Promise-ers there still route through Singapore (I believe..).
