Im in Darwin now, help please

Im now in Darwin.

I got up here on Saturday and am now in a caravan park trying to sort myself out.

Im not gonna go putting hours up on here, Im just gonna leave my mobile and email if anyone knows of some accomodation going or just wants to go for a beer drop me a line.

I suggest Rorkes, or the Vic. Although I think Rorkes has had some yuppyfying renovations done of late??

Above Rourkes is actually an old cinema (that's why the roof slopes down to the back) do you know it they included that area in the renovations?

when you head out to introduce yourself, quite often there are share notices on the notice boards of alot of the companies operating out of Darwin...

Just as a recommendation, dont go making fixed contracts as you could well end up out on one of the communities for a while.

But I think north chique was getting at the fact that if I was to sign a lease, i might get lcky and get a job then have to try and break to lease as i wont be in Darwin anymore.

Ask for a break clause in the contract, if the company requires you to go to a community. Similar to the defence force type clauses for overseas or interstate postings, ask your local Real estate agent.

I would definitely go the "share accomodation" option, in fact I did, Darwin is small and to know ANYBODY else there is an advantage, if not for flying, at least for that first beer tap endorsement, night work is great and, don't worry if the job sucks at first, it only makes you more focussed on your goal.

Can I suggest if you have not already done so, a drive out to Arnhem land, I was told that it wouldn't make any difference but when I had driven the 300 odd kilo's the CP changed his view of me and ended up offering me a job a short time later. Not talking about Kak Air (nothing wrong with them) You'll work it out!

As for watering holes I definitely recommend "The Vic" otherwise known as backpacker heaven........

Never worked there so I cannot say, I have a good friend that did and would be very surprised indeed, if this particular individual flew 1kg over the lagal limit or "knowingly" jumped in an non-airworthy aircraft.

He was there not long ago, if things have changed to the point where overlimits have now become acceptable that is the fault of both the incumbent pilots and the Chef Pilot, it would not have been like that for long, nor should it stay like that for long.

My only advice is to forget about Air Ngukurr. Dont fall into the same trap as I and be stuck in a community that hates you, get robbed every nite by petrol sniffers while living in third world conditions with no possible chance of every getting out of a C210.
They will all try to take advantage of you but dont lower yourself
your better than that.

I've heard tales about Air Ngukurr that almost mimick Troopy's story.

Justwannafly, can you let me know how you find it up there, im thinking of moving up that way in Jan. I'll be in the same boat that your in, dont know anyone and not sure where to go.

The one on Aralia St at Nightcliff is supposed to have a good reputation though :cool:

You can't go past the Tram Eatery just before the entrance to Stokes Hill Wharf. Huge servings, reasonably priced and great view of wharf. Big grassed area with tables and chairs that backs onto the water. The hamburgers there are among the best I have had. And for those of you who know me, you know I have had plenty in my time!
