World Flight 2002 – Big Day Out is a fund raising event to help raise this money and is a day full of Aviation related activities The date is Saturday October 12 2002 and starts at Kingsford Smith Airport at Mascot in Sydney. Here you will be taken on a guided tour of the airport in a bus that is equipped with VHF radios so that you will listen to the Tower Controllers communicating with the aircraft as they taxi to their departure runway. Excellent photo opportunities can be had here, as the bus will proceed along taxiways as the heavies are departing.
This tour will last approximately 90 minutes and is donated by Airside Tarmac Tours.

From Sydney’s Kingsford Smith Airport we proceed by private transport to Bankstown Airport in Sydney’s west. Here you will have the opportunity to inspect vintage aircraft including a DH Dragon and several other old aircraft. There is a possibility that the DH Dragon may be available for short flights around Bankstown but that has not been confirmed. Other activities are being planned for the Bankstown visit but are not yet confirmed.

We then proceed to Matt Sheil’s premises at Chipping Norton where a barbecue and drinks will be available. Those participating will be able to meet some of the crew that will operate the 747-400 simulator on its round the world virtual flight and you will also be able to try your hand at actually flying the simulator.

During the course of the afternoon there will be “Lucky Hangar Door” prizes, which will include Flight Simulator software from PC Aviator, subscriptions to Computer Pilot Magazine, a trial instructional flight (TIF) from Chieftain Flying School, Hoyts movie tickets and a scenic flight in a DC3 donated by Dakota Air.

The cost of the Big Day Out is set at $80.00 per head and all proceeds will go to the Royal Flying Doctor Service. There is a limited number of seats available and should you be interested in participating in this worthy cause then please do not delay in completing the booking form below. It is a requirement that payment of the $80.00 be made in advance to confirm your booking and instructions on where to send the money will be forwarded to you once your booking has been received.
